Design problem:  create a tiny logo design for a tiny stamp.
Requirement:
1.  Choose from cylinder, cone, cube, pyramid
2.  Keep it small-approximately 1" square
3.  Try to keep it to forms rather than drawing lines in the clay.
4.  If you use letters be sure they are backwards due to the printing process.
5.  You can choose to make your form positive or negative.
Wednesday 8/19/09
Group activity-Each table was given the same modest material to create a 3 dimensional sculpture that represents each student at that table.  Students were given the elements of design after they were explained.  Students also used the principles of order which was the last page attached to their green sheet.
Thursday 8/20/09
Students were introduced to the Aesthetic Valuing Process.  Student's learned the 4 steps:
1.  Describe
2.  Analyze
3.  Interpret
4.  Judge
Students wrote a paragraph describing their sulpture using the elements of design.  Students wrote a paragraph describing their sculpture using the principles of order.  The third paragraph told what their sculpture meant.  The analyzed it's tone, mood, and meaning.
The last part of their aesthetic valuing was judgement.  They created a rubric with craftsmanship, creativity and effort on a 1 to 4 chart.

Students were asked to justify the reason for each judgement.

Presentation of Research Project-visit to the ITC
1.  You will be using a search engine such as google to look up your artist.  Type his or her entire name + sculptor so you narrow the search.  For example there are lots of George Segals including an actor.  Museums are good web sites and reliable.  PBS Art 21 is also a good resource.  Universities also have great opportunities.
2.  Remember to read requirement # 10 thouroughly-it asks for at least 4 resources which include a book and an article from a magazine or newspaper.  Please save your powerpoint with your period first, your last name second then an underscore and the last name of your artist, all lower case with no spaces.  Save it 3 places, on a memory stick, in you e-mail and if possible in the electronic locker I provide you.  Do not save it on the desk top it will be gone when the computer is turned off.  Example of proper naming of work:    4imerson_calder
3.  You can save the sample powerpoint with you period, last name and artist last name today and keep modifying and saving it.

4.  To go to the electronic locker today:  go to the go menu at the top of the computer then go down to connect to server-and type in 10.218.2.17 and click on connect-the user name is Leland and the password is student.  You then click on student files and will see the folder Imerson09.  Inside the folder is a folder for your period.

Requirements
Day one worksheet (may be hand written-do not print out in the Lab)  (worksheets in word doc form:  day one  day two)
Day two worksheet
Sample Power point
11/20/09
Continue work at ITC
1.  Today you will work on worksheet 2 which has some critical thinking type questions.
2.  If you finish the worksheets be sure and start your powerpoint.
3.  Begin by reading the requirements and looking at the same powerpoint.  Use the same one as a template.  Save it in the electronic locker with your period, last name and last name of the artist with an underscore between your names (all with lower case and no spaces).  For example:  4madonna_warhol

11/23/09
Continue work at ITC
1.  Today you will begin work on your powerpoint.
2.  Open the sample powerpoint above and save it in the imerson09 folder. (of course you have to connect to the server first-if you have forgotten the directions are above on 11/19/09.
3.  Spend time collecting visuals of your artists work. (remember to collect large photos, not thumbnail and as you collect save the website address on the last slide in your presentation.  Just change the words in the sample powerpoint and save a few time during the period and of course at the end.)
4.  It is a good idea to save it on your memory stick and also attached to an e-mail.
5.  Remember to use the requirements sheet to check off as you go.  Give your self a goal and use your time efficiently.  You will receive a progress grade for todays work and for tomorrow, so your behavior is of upmost importance.

We are starting to finish up teapots so we will be critiquing them and moving on to our next project.
Mrs Imerson talked about two design problems:  the almaden valley art and wine festival glass design and also the column design which will be presented by the ASB to the student body.  Mrs. Imerson is requiring a design for both from all her students.

Logo Contest for Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival
1.  All artwork is to be original and done in black and white.  NO COMPUTER GENERATED ARTWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED.
2.  Artwork should be done on white 81/2 x 11 paper and drawn to the scale of the paper.
3.  Artwork shall be signed and dated by both the student and the teacher on the back of the artwork.
4.  Artwork shall have student's address and telephone number and school listed on the back of the artwork.
5.  Entries shall be submitted by April 23, 2010
6.  Artwork shall contain no words, drawings of glasses or dates

The column contest is an opportunity for Public Art!  The contest is to design murals for the 4 columns on the Senior Tree in the Quad.

Bill Gould Design of San Jose, California is pleasd to announce the release of a REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS for the 4 columns on the Senior Tree in the Quad.  The goal is to create a student connection to the "Senior Tree" public art in the quad and give the senior class a chance to leave their mark on the campus before they go.  The intent is that this will be an annual event.  This artwork project will require an artist or artist team that specializes in painting, airbrushing, spray painting or other proposed method for marking the columns.

This project is open to all students currently attending Leland High School.  Participants must be avaiable to install their designs the week of May 14 through the 24th, 2010.  Public Artist metors will be on hand to supervise the installations.  quality Control will be important to provide a high level of work for the students, staff, and visitors to the campus to enjoy throughout the coming year.

Entries must be submitted by April 21st.  The tubes will be displayed in the art courtyard and other potential venues for the senior class to vote on.  The four designs that meet the guidelines of the competition with the highest votes will be selected to install their designs on the columns in the Quad.  These winning designs will be the legacy of the graduating senior class and left up for the coming year until another request for proposals is released.
